JUSTICE Minister Michael McDowell has appointed a third permanent judge to oversee the District Court in Cork city.

Judge David Riordan was appointed following consultation with the president of the District Court.

According to the Department of Justice, the move was prompted by a significant increase in the workload for judges in Cork in recent years.
