Youth brandished hatchet at courthouse

QUICK action by gardaí prevented a major incident outside Limerick’s court buildings yesterday after a youth produced a hatchet.

Many people witnessed the incident as sittings of the District Court, Circuit Court and High Court were in progress at the time.

After shouts were heard in the corridor of the district court building, gardaí present in the courtroom, rushed out and apprehended a youth who produced a hatchet. He was immediately arrested and taken to Henry Street Garda station.
