Cash for North autism unit ‘scandal’

THE Government was yesterday accused of squandering money on a multi-million euro education centre in the North for autistic children while failing to provide basic services at home.

The Department of Education is co-funding a centre of excellence in Co Armagh, to be used for the education of special-needs children on both sides of the border.

Fine Gael education spokesperson Olwyn Enright expressed surprise at the project, announced before last year's general election.
