Cats see how plain milk can get a shake-up
Avonmore’s new range of slim-line milk was a big attraction on the Glanbia stand at the event in Ballinabrackey. Henry Sheflin followed visits the previous day by D J Carey, Noel Hickey and other members of the Kilkenny All-Ireland winning hurling team.
But they didn’t walk alone because crowds from around the country flocked to the milk bar to enjoy the smoothie range.
They watched Ruairí Ó Morochain, the Druid Chef, as he used fresh strawberries, melon, banana, lemon juice, honey, ginger, crushed ice and mint leaves to flavour milk.
Mr Ó Morochain said the options were endless.
“You are looking at how many styles of milk you can use. Milk is milk but when you add one little product to it or enhance it one way you have a new product.
“It is quite exciting. We were inundated with people at the ploughing championships.
“We were so busy on Wednesday we even ran out of the product,” he said.
Glanbia Communications manager Kieran O’Connor said dairy products were one of the first things to be mistakenly taken out of the menu plan for those trying to lose or watch weight.
Avonmore’s solution was a slim-line milk, which is 99.7% fat free and has the additional benefits of being enriched with high-protein, calcium and vitamins A and B, he said.
