TD calls for school staff to be vetted

THE lack of appropriate vetting procedures at schools and in voluntary-run organisations is putting children at risk, Fine Gael claimed yesterday.

Deputy Olwyn Enright warned: “Everybody knows the lack of vetting in Ireland is unacceptable.

“We lag behind Northern Ireland and that could easily act as an incentive for potential abusers in the North and Britain to seek employment in the Republic.”
