Call for radical overhaul of driving test system

PROVISIONAL licence holders are waiting almost a year to take their driving test at some centres.

As a four-week pilot scheme ends today, Fine Gael's Denis Naughten demanded a radical overhaul of the driving test system.

"Our test system stems from the dark ages," he said, "Ireland is the only country in the EU without a structured driving training programme in place."
