FUNDRAISERS for a €10m sports centre in Killarney, Co Kerry, could be prosecuted for offering prizes above levels set by the Gaming and Lotteries Act.

Fundraisers for €10m sports complex could face prosecution

Kerry County Council’s legal department has told the fundraising committee, which has the backing of Killarney Town Council, that the draw is violating a section of the Act.

However, a leading member of the fundraising committee, Councillor Sean O’Grady, said there was no major difficulty and other organisers around the country faced similar situations but complied with the Act. He said they had two, or three, different solutions and would fully comply with the law.
