AN insurance scheme which the Government plans to introduce in January could leave some obstetricians in private practice without cover.

Irish Hospital Consultant’s Association secretary general Finbarr Fitzpatrick said it could mean a minority of consultants, due to renew indemnity cover, would be unable to practice.

He said this was because of the impossible deadline which the Department of Health had set for the introduction of the Clinical Indemnity (enterprise liability) Scheme (CIS).
