GARDAÍ yesterday appealed for calm among hostile rival elements of the Travelling community, in Kerry, to allow the investigation into the murder of Michael Faulkner, aged 43, in Tralee to continue.

Amid fears of further violence, senior members of the Travelling community have also been asked to try and ensure the funeral of the unemployed father-of-six goes off peacefully in Cork today.

Mr Faulkner was savagely stabbed to death after being set upon by three men armed with knives and other weapons within 100 yards of his home at Mitchel’s Crescent, Tralee, late on Monday night. He also had an address at Dunmore Gardens, Knocknaheeny, Cork.
