GOVERNMENT and industry efforts to attract more students into science courses appear to be working.

Applications for science degrees have risen for a second successive year, it emerged yesterday.

Figures from the Central Applications Office (CAO) showed slightly more than 5,000 applicants opted for an honours bachelor degree in science as their first preference on course lists submitted up to the February 1 deadline.
