A LOCAL authority is being urged to be the first in Ireland to provide incentives to reduce the estimated 37,000 disposable nappies buried in landfills in Cork every year.

A member of Cork County Council, who has a one-year-old son, says encouraging parents to switch to cloth nappies will save them money and help improve the environment.

According to the Women’s Environmental Network a child undergoes 6.5 nappy changes a day, over two-and-a-half years of potty training, bringing the total nappies used in that time to 5460.
