Man suffers stab attack as masked men raid house

A MAN was taken to hospital with injuries to the face and chest following a raid on a house in Cork city yesterday.

Man suffers stab attack as masked men raid house

Two masked men entered a house in Willow Park on the South Douglas Road and attacked a 19-year-old man with a knife.

The attackers entered through the front door, which was unlocked. There were a number of other people in the house at the time of the stabbing. No one else was injured.

A garda spokesman said the injuries to the victim were “not life-threatening”.

The men made their escape in a silver-coloured car, in the direction of the South Ring road. Gardaí have not ruled out the possibility that the stabbing may be linked to an attack on two men also in the Douglas area on August 27.

Gary O’Sullivan, 21, and Richard Byrne, 18, were assaulted by two men yielding machetes who burst into Gary’s home on Elm Drive in the early hours of the morning.

Both men were hospitalised following the attack. Richard was badly injured but both men have since been released from hospital. Gardaí are still investigating the incident.

The previous Sunday, the two had been set upon by men armed with bottles after they left a pub in Douglas.

Last night a garda spokesman said they had ruled nothing in or out in relation to the latest attack.

“We are not following any definite line of enquiry. As yet, we have no suspects.”

The scene of the attack in Willow Park was under technical examination last night.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the vicinity of Willow Park between 1-1.15pm yesterday to contact them at either Douglas or Togher garda stations in Cork City. Tel: 021-4891115 or 021-4962611.
