Pay-by-use system to cut bin bills by 40%

HOUSEHOLDERS will be able to cut their bin charges by up to 40% when the new “pay by use” system is introduced in January, Environment Minister Dick Roche predicted yesterday.

The average householder will save almost €150 on their annual charges if they work the new system properly and recycle as much of waste as possible.

Over two-thirds of householders currently pay a flat fee for their bin collection that varies enormously nationwide. The average household pays €370.
