Department spends €9m on reviewing health service

THE Department of Health has spent almost €9 million on reports, reviews and expert committees since July 1997, but the figure covers just 53 of 121 such initiatives.

In addition, the Brennan Report, a value-for-money audit of the health service, commissioned by the Department of Finance, cost €133,000.

Of this, the major items were €89,000 fees paid to members; €18,000 in travel and subsistence costs paid to members and €16,000 for the printing of the final report.
