THE Labour Party has urged the Government to press ahead with Leaving Cert reform - and not be swayed by the high costs involved.

As exclusively reported by the Irish Examiner, experts have told Education Minister Mary Hanafin it would cost €100 million a year to provide the extra teachers required under the proposed new system.

In addition to 1,900 extra teachers needed under a system of continuous assessment, the extra assessment work could add €10m a year to the running costs of the State Examinations Commission.
