SISTER Joan Bowles, who championed the cause of the disadvantaged youth in Limerick for over 30 years, walked the extra mile in all her endeavours and was fearless in the challenges she posed for society, Rev. John O'Shea, told mourners at her funeral yesterday.

Hundreds of relatives, friends and dignitaries filled St. Mary’s Church to pay their final farewell to the very popular nun.

Sister Bowles, 59, a native of Oola, Co Limerick, and founder and Director of the Limerick Youth Service, was killed last Thursday when her car was involved in an accident with a train at an unmanned level crossing at Woodfarm, near Dromkeen.
