WATERFORD is to have a second river crossing within four years and a new city bypass which will cut journey times into and through the city significantly.

Transport Minister Martin Cullen has turned the sod on the €530 million, 23km route, which will include a 475-metre cable-stayed bridge spanning the Suir.

Launching the works yesterday, Mr Cullen forecasted major social and economic benefits for Waterford and the South-East when the Waterford City Bypass is completed in 2010.
