EDUCATION Minister Mary Hanafin has been criticised for again delaying crucial reforms of Leaving Certificate subjects critical to the country’s economic future.

The Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) said revised courses for senior cycle technology, engineering technology, design and communication graphics, architectural technology and art, have been awaiting approval from the Department of Education for over a year.

The union’s education officer John MacGabhann said the unacceptable delays in their introduction were a poor sign of things to come for proposed major reforms of the Leaving Certificate exam.
