Thousands make nursing home claims

THE Health Services Executive (HSE) has been flooded with thousands of applications for repayment of illegal nursing home charges from residents and relatives of former residents who have died.

Repayments under the scheme may cost more than €1 billion.

Although the deadline for reimbursement of the charges is not for another two years, a HSE helpline has been extremely busy with queries from potential applicants.
