Sewage overflow angers residents

HOMEOWNERS in Kilkenny are worried about their health because effluent has been seeping from a nearby sewage plant into the River Nore for almost 20 years.

Sewage overflow angers residents

Residents living near the treatment plant at Purcellsinch in the city say they’d be laughed out of any auctioneer’s office, were they to try to sell their homes. For the fifth morning in a row yesterday, they had to deal with the stench of effluent seeping from the plant.

They say they’ve lived with smells and emissions from the plant for almost 20 years and want the Government to take immediate steps to remedy problems there. Otherwise, they fear for their health and the safety of fish life in a nearby river.
