Cork 2005: The Short Film Project

AWARE that no major conference on short film has ever taken place, The Cork International Film Festival intends to make a major intervention into the international perception and understanding of short film as an art form.

Cork 2005: The Short Film Project

An international conference on the history, aesthetic and cultural significance of the short film will be held during October of 2005.

An experts’ poll of the One Hundred Greatest Shorts in cinema history will be taken, as well as the screening of the One Hundred Greatest Shorts at the Cork International Film Festival and the publication of a book on the subject of short film. This major, even unique, intervention in film history will attract film historians, critics, representatives of Short Film Festivals as well as agencies, film-makers and cultural journalists. As part of the build-up to this major cultural initiative, brochures will be sent to all major festivals, inviting partners and institutions, creating a worldwide call for papers.

Cork Simon Film Project: This comes from homeless and formerly homeless members of the Simon Community and will offer an insight into the unique and personal realities of homelessness in our city.

The presence of film screens on the streets of the city provides a poignant context.
