PRIMARY school principals are enraged their second-level counterparts and their deputies are in line for one-off payments for handling the class supervision crisis.

Although the Department of Education says it is only examining the claim of secondary school principals, it has been reported a figure of around 2,500 is to be given to each school head and each deputy principal.

Irish National Teachers Organisation general secretary John Carr said the 3,200 principals affiliated to the union will seek a similar payment for extra duties.
