IRELAND is the third worst country in Europe for traffic congestion, a study has revealed.

And the problem is unlikely to improve unless people opt to use public transport and leave their cars at home, a senior engineer warned yesterday.

The traffic survey commissioned by the British Government found that the UK was the worst country in Europe for traffic gridlock followed by Spain, with Ireland in third place.
