LASTING peace in Northern Ireland would set a shining example to other countries struggling against violent conflict, Foreign Affairs Minister Brian Cowen told Fianna Fáil’s Árd Fhéis in Killarney.

He said many people across the world who find themselves in seemingly hopeless situations looked to Ireland as an example of hope.

Ireland’s peace process was one occasion when governments constructed the means to confront the real issues of today, Mr Cowen said.
