Progress on pool

WORK is expected to start next year on a long-awaited public swimming pool cum sports complex in a top tourist town.

Killarney has waited for up to 15 years for such a facility and contract documents have been submitted to the Department of Tourism for approval to proceed to the next stage of the €10m project.

Killarney Town Council, the driving force behind the project, hopes to be able to go to tender by the late autumn. A contractor should be chosen by the beginning of next year and should be ready to go on site by the spring. The construction period will be just over a year-and-a-half.
