THE majority of new primary schools due to open this year will be open to children of all religions, reflecting the growth in demand for more inclusive education in recent years.

Six new schools under the umbrella of the Educate Together organisation will bring the number of multi-denominational primary schools to almost 40, catering for more than 5,000 pupils.

In September, the country will have 34 Educate Together schools and four other multi-denominationals under the patronage of all-Irish schools body, An Foras Pátrúnachta.
