Gardaí investigate sex assault on teen

John Breslin

A man has been charged with the rape of the 13-year-old boy in a laneway in Swords last Thursday.

The assault is said to have taken place at Hollows Lane off St Colmcille’s Court, shortly after 9pm that day.

A man was arrested that night and taken to Swords Garda Station where he was charged with the assault.

He appeared before Clover Hill District Court the following day and was remanded in custody to appear again before the same court tomorrow. The accused’s name has not been released.

The teenager told gardaí he was walking with a friend along the laneway when they got into conversation with two men.

He claims to have then been taken around a corner and subjected to the assault. It is reported the boy’s friend managed to escape and report the alleged attack to gardaí.

The laneway where the attack is said to have taken place is close to the Main Street in Swords and is used as a short-cut.
