TRAFFIC in Limerick city was thrown into chaos for hours yesterday after a huge cement lorry toppled over on the approach to Shannon Bridge.

The accident happened at 6.30am and as a massive mop-up operation of spilt oil and cement swung into action, major diversions were put in place by gardaí.

A special suction pump was commissioned to extract the cement powder from the stricken lorry and firefighters and city council workers managed to prevent spilt fuel oil from the lorry going into the Shannon.
