It was a joyous moment in National Lottery offices when mother and daughter Mary-Ann and Caroline Carey collected the bumper Lotto jackpot from last Saturday’s draw.

The winning ticket was purchased in Quinn’s Spar Store in Daingean. The ticket was a €6 Quickpick selection, purchased on Saturday, the day of the draw.

Both Mary-Ann and Caroline were at home in Mount Lucas in Offaly watching the draw on Saturday night when they saw their numbers tumble out.

The Careys travelled to National Lottery offices in Dublin yesterday morning to collect their big winnings and headed home to Mount Lucas in Offaly, via the bank, to celebrate with the rest of the family.

In all, Mary-Anne and husband Sean have six sons and six daughters, most of whom have families of their own. They also have 62 grand-children and 16 great grand-children. Daughter Caroline, the co-winner of the jackpot, is the only member of the family left living at home with her parents.

Also collecting yesterday were two lucky Lotto Plus winners from Cork. They collected their top prizes of €300,000 and €200,000 each this morning.

The first winner from Cork was a married woman who bought her €6 quick pick ticket in Pierce Hickey’s shop in Skibbereen.” I am absolutely delighted with my win,” said the winner, who remained nameless “Although I don’t have any immediate plans for the €300,000, I will be sharing it with my family.”

The married man from Cork, who collected his Lotto Plus 2 win of €200,000, wanted to remain anonymous. He purchased his ticket in McCarthy’s, Tallow Street, Youghal, Co Cork. He has no plans as yet for the money.
