Nursing homes near Leas Cross not up to standard

ALMOST a quarter of private nursing homes in the same area as the controversial Leas Cross nursing home are not up to standard.

Inspectors looking at alternative accommodation for Leas Cross residents have been unable to recommend seven of the 30 private nursing homes in the eastern region because of shortcomings identified earlier this year.

Gerard Scully of Age Action Ireland said the situation underlined how important it was to have an independent vetting process for both private and public nursing homes.
