Wesley, Glasnevin reach last 16

WESLEY College and Scoil Chaitriona Glasnevin won through to the last 16 of the Thomas Crosbie Holdings All Ireland Schools Quiz at the Montrose Hotel, Dublin, last evening.

In the first session Glasnevin had a gripping contest with Castleknock College, the teams level at the end of seven rounds, but Scoil Chaitriona finished strongly to win. In the second session, Wesley College had full marks in the last two rounds to win over Blackrock College.

Results: Quiz 143; 1. Castleknock College 90, 2. Scoil Chaitriona 96. Quiz 144; 1. Wesley College 112, 2. Blackrock College 96.

At the South Court Hotel, Limerick, Ard Scoil Rís and Laurel Hill Secondary School finished with 110 points each. Following a countback Ard Scoil Rís had 24 correct individual answers and Laurel Hill 22.

Quiz 69: 1. Ard Scoil Rís (Darren O'Connor, John Halpin, Brian Collopy, Killian McCarthy) 110pts; 2. Laurel Hill Secondary School (Clara McGann, Tanya Roi, Sarah Curtin, Nuala McCauley) 110; 3. Crescent Comprehensive College (Saileoig Kennedy, Hillary McGann, Dean Moore, Eoghan O'Shea) 88.

At the Imperial Hotel last night, there were two very close quizzes. Coláiste an Spioraid Naomh took the first with 122. The team consisted of Darragh Kearns-Hayes, Barry Buttimer, Colm O'Regan and Joseph Lynch. In second place were St Aloysius School, St Mary's of the Isle Cork on 118. In third place was St Angela's College on 86.

The second quiz resulted in a win for Coláiste Choilm with 92 marks. The team was Donna Newman, James Costelloe, Aisling Punch and Harry Cullen. In second place were Coláiste Phiarsaigh with 88 marks.
