Shock as workers thought jobs secure

PAUL NOLAN has just bought a house in Limerick. Yesterday, he lost his job and his future suddenly became unclear.

Paul, 26, and his girlfriend Yvonne Cross, 29, both work at Tellabs in Shannon, Co Clare. They thought their jobs were secure enough to make the big decision to buy a house.

Paul, a technician at the factory, and his girlfriend, who works in the purchasing department, bought a house in the city suburb of Rhebogue. Both were looking forward to a bright future with Tellabs.
