Murdered man linked to drugs

GARDAÍ said last night there was no breakthrough into the murder of a Dublin man whose body was found dumped on Friday in the Wicklow Gap.

Murdered man linked to drugs

The victim, who suffered a gun wound to the head, was believed to have a link to a drugs gang but was not regarded by gardaí as a major criminal.

The body of Owen McCarthy from Ashwood Park, Clondalkin, was found at 7.40am by a passing motorist on the roadside at Annalecka Bridge, Ballinagee on the main Hollywood to Glendalough Road.

He may have been a runner for a gang operating in the Tallaght, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown areas.

The deceased was due to face criminal charges, including possession of drugs with street values up to €15,000.

Gardaí have appealed for motorists travelling on the Hollywood village to Glendalough road early on Friday last to contact them.
