MORE than 90% of residents in 10 major cities and towns said the volume of cars on the road is a major problem, according to the results of research out yesterday.

Based on 1,007 telephone interviews, research found that 83% of residents felt car use should be limited to improve freedom of movement in cities and towns.

The research, carried out by Lansdowne Market Research for Sustainable Energy Ireland, was on attitudes towards Car Free Day 2002.
