EMPLOYERS owe the Exchequer €176 million in unpaid PRSI contributions, figures have revealed.

In total, 11,000 businesses are behind on their payments to the Revenue Commissioners - and that figure excludes those who owe “minor” amounts.

The revelation comes just weeks after the Comptroller and Auditor General criticised the construction industry for failing to abide by tax laws.
