THE big chill is here until the weekend, so cover up and stay warm is the message from Met Éireann.

With temperatures falling below zero in many parts and sleet and rain forecast for the next few days, road conditions were reported to be at their worst in a decade, particularly in parts of the midlands and south east.

Gardaí said the poor weather conditions were responsible for a spate of accidents across many parts of Carlow, Wexford and Waterford yesterday morning.
