IRISH researchers have discovered new genetic pathways they believe will lead to the development of new drugs for treating Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Consultant neurologist at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Dr Orla Hardiman, said she was “very hopeful” that the new drugs would be developed and become available within the next five years.

“It is a very exciting discovery because we have opened up a whole new area of medical research that is almost certainly going to yield new drugs for treating the condition,” said Dr Hardiman, co-author of the research.
