‘Courts Service should pay for escorts’

LIMERICK prison officers yesterday called on the Government to have the Courts Service pay for prison escorts.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced plans to privatise prison escorts and hand the work over to security companies.

The Limerick branch of the POA yesterday passed a motion which will now go to the national executive of the POA calling for court escorts to be retained as the work of prison officers.
