Roche would not oppose incinerator

ENVIRONMENT Minister Dick Roche insisted yesterday that he would not oppose an incinerator being built in his own backyard of Co Wicklow.

Mr Roche rejected claims by the opposition that he was suffering from the NIMBY - Not In My Back Yard - syndrome on incineration following an interview on RTÉ.

Asked if he would welcome an incinerator in his own Wicklow constituency, Mr Roche told Prime Time: “Well, the matter hasn’t arisen and probably I would be no different than Michael McDowell in defending the interests of my constituents, I’m prepared to be honest about that.”
