Gardaí question man over restaurant blaze

GARDAÍ were last night questioning a Moldovan man arrested in connection with a fire that gutted a West Cork restaurant.

The man, who lives in Cork city, was being held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at Clonakilty garda station.

Forensic experts had to wait until last evening before the remains of The Church restaurant, Skibbereen, was deemed safe to examine.

Inspector Seán Healy said gardaí will not know the cause of the fire until the results of their forensic exam are known today.

Restaurant owner Regina Daly said she cried for hours after she was told her “pride and joy” had been gutted.

Inspector Healy urged those who may have been in the area from 6-7pm on Sunday to contact gardaí.
