Clonakilty cleans up with gold medals

CLONAKILTY added a second gold medal to its haul of national tidy town awards in recent years, emerging yesterday as the outright regional winner in Cork and Kerry.

Killarney, however, maintained its steady progress towards a national title, claiming a second successive gold medal. A former national title winner, Kenmare also achieved the gold award.

With 14 gold medals presented nationally, the three awarded to the south-west region were significant in that Clonakilty, Kenmare and Killarney are all top tourist towns.
