Up to 800 bars of the drug were found in undergrowth, hidden in ditches and concealed in holdall carrier bags. The quantity would enable the making of nearly two million cigarettes, Limerick Circuit Court heard yesterday. Christopher McCormack, aged 21, of Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, admitted having the drug for sale or supply. His defence counsel said McCormack was at the bottom of the ladder and only had a ‘fleeting’ contact with the drugs and, if he revealed the others involved to gardaí, he would be a dead man.

Det Garda Sandra Heelan of the Limerick divisional drugs squad said she and Det Garda Oliver Foley followed a suspicious van which was travelling in close proximity to a motor bike on the evening of June 7 last.
