Lawyer attacks victim impact statement system

THE solicitor who defended Wayne O’Donoghue called last night for a complete overhaul of the victim impact statement system.

Frank Buttimer said the current system was fundamentally flawed, inadequate and in need of reform by the Oireachtas.

But he said to take away the right of victims like Majella Holohan to speak out would be an affront to the natural principles of justice.
