Sick children to meet heroes

CHILDREN suffering from life-threatening illnesses are to have their dreams come true.

The Share a Dream Foundation is planning to bring some joy into eight children’s lives.

Shay Kinsella, the inspiration behind the foundation, said: “It’s a well-kept secret until tonight but the children get a chance to meet their heroes or to take part in something they thought was impossible to achieve due to their illnesses.”

They and their families will be guests tonight at the foundation’s fundraising ball in Galway where the national children’s courage awards will be presented.

“Despite their handicaps, they can achieve extraordinary things and many of the children being honoured have already achieved something incredible,” said Mr Kinsella.

The Share a Dream Foundation founder noted, “There are thousands of special children in Ireland in and out of hospital. They miss out on so many aspects of childhood which healthy children take for granted.

“In spite of their illnesses or disabilities these wonderful children have shown extraordinary courage, determination and spirit.”

The event, he said, promised to be a magical occasion where dreams will actually come true.

“You will never know the true meaning of a smile until you take part in creating one,” Mr Kinsella added.
