Three people recovering after stabbings

In Dublin, two men were hospitalised after being stabbed in separate incidents in the Ballyfermot area of the city, while a further incident in Co Meath saw a woman hospitalised with knife wounds.

In the Dublin incidents, one man received facial injuries when he was attacked with a knife in the Le Fanu Park area of Ballyfermot just after 1am.

Shortly afterwards a second man was injured in another stabbing incident in nearby Cherry Orchard.

The second attack, which took place just an hour after the first and in the same vicinity, is thought to have been connected with the first incident.

However, gardaí said they were unable to investigate either attack since none of the parties involved were prepared to file statements or make an official complaint.

"We have no investigation into those incidents and we have received no complaints about any stabbings in Dublin. If no one has made a complaint and there have been no statements then we have nothing to investigate," said a Garda spokeswoman. Both men were brought to St James' Hospital and were yesterday receiving treatment for their wounds. However a hospital spokesperson said that their injuries were not life-threatening and their condition was stable.

Meanwhile, a Co Meath woman is recovering in Dublin's Mater Hospital following a stabbing incident in Kells. The woman, who has not filed a complaint with gardaí was stabbed in the Cavan Road area of Kells shortly after midnight on Sunday.

She was rushed to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan shortly after the incident but was transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin for further treatment yesterday morning. A hospital spokeswoman said the woman was still a patient and that her condition was satisfactory.
