Colombia Three released from jail

Martin McCauley, Niall Connolly and James Monaghan, were released from the Modelo Prison in Bogota on Tuesday. However, they are not expected to return home in the short term as magistrates have ruled they cannot leave Colombia ahead of a state appeal hearing against their acquittal on charges of assisting left-wing guerillas. Supporters of the trio confirmed last night they have been refused permission to leave the country pending the appeal, but a deal may yet be worked out.

A panel of magistrates ruled they should not be allowed to come back to Ireland, despite Irish Government appeals and guarantees they would return to Colombia for the hearing.
