Success for Carlow at TCH schools quiz

CARLOW enjoyed a very productive evening at the Thomas Crosbie Holdings Ltd All-Ireland Schools Quiz held in the Montrose Hotel, Dublin, last night when their representatives, St Mary’s College, Knockbeg, and Vocational School, Borris, had victories over Dublin opposition.

In the first session, the Knockbeg squad had a very narrow win against the fancied Wesley College team from Dublin, winning by a mere two points.

Borris had a more emphatic win of 12 points over Scoil Chaitríona, Glasnevin, Dublin. St Mary’s College, Knockbeg, Carlow - 108 points; Wesley College, Dublin - 106 points.

Vocational School, Borris, Co Carlow - 106 points; Scoil Chaitriona, Glasnevin - 94 points.

In a gripping fourth round contest, Coláiste An Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown, advanced to the quarter-final of the quiz at the Imperial Hotel in Cork last night.

At the half-way stage, they were 12 points behind Árd Scoil Phobail, Beanntraí.

They had an excellent finish to bring the scores level, at 114 each after the rounds. On a count back, Coláiste advanced with the most individual correct answers.

Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig, also advanced to the quarter-final with a solid performance in the first quiz of the evening. They scored 110 points to CBS Dungarvan’s 98 points.
