FREE GP care for young children and free health screening for adults every five years are two of the central facets of Fine Gael’s health policy.

Launching the party’s strategy, health spokesman Dr Liam Twomey said in an ideal world everyone should have free access to GP care.

But since the system could not cope with such a move, Fine Gael has decided to begin by promising free GP care only to children under five. This would cost the party an estimated €50 million annually.
