Cancer link drug found in chicken

CHICKEN containing two banned substances one of which was taken off the market because of fears it caused cancer was imported from Thailand three weeks ago.

The consignment should have been examined in Britain under EU regulations before reaching Ireland. It was checked here by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and Department of Agriculture officials after suspicions were raised about documentation accompanying the cargo.

The chicken was impounded by food safety officials after tests showed it contained nitrofurans and chloramphenicol.
