Debt fears: the average person owes over €30,000

THE average person owes over €30,000 in personal debt including mortgage repayments, according to the latest figures from the Central Bank.

Repeating warnings about borrowing levels, the bank said day-to-day spending has reached worrying levels and by the end of this year Ireland will be among the most indebted nations in Europe.

Average personal debt is up 600% to €30,000 in the past decade but borrowing continues at record levels.
